What does the Lord require of you?

As believers we understand how important it is to spend time in prayer. It’s one of the greatest blessings God has gifted to us.

We are told in Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Isn’t that such a blessing? Let’s break it down a little bit.

LET US is a term used when a king grants permission to someone to enter his presence. Not only that; but He allows us to come BOLDLY. The King of all creation cares about the things you and I need. That’s why 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. HE CARES FOR YOU. He allows us to come to Him BOLDLY to FIND HELP IN OUR TIMES OF NEED because He cares about us.

We should take comfort in the fact that God cares about our need, is able to provide for them and promises to help. Our God is filled with love. However, our prayer lives should not only be about us telling God what we need but also asking God what He requires. Have you ever stopped and asked God what He desires from you? Micah 6:8 answers that question. He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you? But to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?

1st. Do justly.

To put it simply you need to obey what the bible says. Do what God says to do in His word. Jesus asked in Luke 6:46 ‘But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?’ 1 John 5:3 tells us For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. The first thing the Lord requires of us to obey Him.

2nd. Love Mercy.

We love mercy when it’s given to us but do we offer it to others as freely as we have received it from God? Matthew 6:15 warns that if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. It shows that you are not truly forgiven yourself if you are unwilling to forgive others. The second thing the Lord requires of us is to forgive others.

3rd. Walk humbly with your God.

Walking with God involves more than church on Wednesdays and Sundays. It’s daily and must be done with humility. We need to remember that we do not deserve God. It’s by grace we have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9. The third thing the Lord requires of us is to resist pride while we walk with Him daily.

Let’s start with these 3 things and see how God blesses you today.
